The Ripple Effect

Jesus told us, his disciples, to go and make disciples. One of the most important values of this church is our mission to intentionally provide means of discipleship that encourages and provides opportunities to engage others. We preach and teach holiness that can be truly be life transforming. So it becomes a “ripple effect” through those who are placed in the path of the people who call this church home.

Reaching Out to Our Corner of the World

Inside church is all about coming together for worship, fellowship, and preparation to do the real work of the church, by leaving the building and engaging the people each of us meet every day. Whether at work, coffee shop, on the street or in the backyard. This is how Jesus’ disciples did it and it is a mainstay of this church. This is not something that is just talked about, it is practiced and modeled by the leadership of the church. Pastor Rick and Pastor Nick both have jobs outside the church, where they engage the others.

Spiritual Formation

What is Spiritual Formation? this is a common question we get asked, because it is not something that is stressed in many churches today. Where some churches seek to provide discipleship through programs, at AlexFirstFMC we stress personal spiritual transformation comes through by no longer conforming to the world, but by a renewing of your mind. Being Holy as God is Holy (Lev. 19:2) This is best accomplished by the practice of spiritual disciplines. This is Spiritual Formation. How one practices, depends on where they are at in their Christian Journey.

Dare to be Different

Be Connected…Not Alone

Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of this church. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. We maintain an active Facebook page that provides for additional church communication, but even more so daily posts of devotional nature that allows for the followers of the page to have words from God’s Word to meditate on throughout the day.

Gathering Together for Worship

Our worship service on Sunday Mornings could be considered typical of most evangelical churches, but we also are different. We plan our service to be no longer than an hour, not because we want to confine the movement of Spirit, actual just the opposite, the people the Lord has called to our church, deal with many things, physically, mentally, and emotional. To try to stay focus and attentive is sometimes just not possible, so we count on the Holy Spirit to engage the congregation right where they at. Videos and Live Music create the means for keeping attention, and setting the focus for the sermon. Sermons are short (about 15 to 20 minutes) but deep and challenging.

Not Your Typical Church

AlexFirstFMC is not your typical church. We are very much non-traditional in just about everything we do. When we come together at the Lord’s Table, usually on the first Sunday of the month, it is a special time. As the elements are shared, the story of Christ is shared and all who are in attendance are invited to partake, not just of the elements but also of the saving grace of Jesus. We are also non-traditional for we do not “pass the plate” for offering. All are invited to give as the Holy Spirit leads them, by placing their tithe, gift, or offering in a basket located at the back of the sanctuary. For we want the focus to be on Jesus’ transforming power, not money. Even are small groups are non-traditional. Are focus is not on using program materials, but on intentional discipleship methods of using Scripture, tradition, experience and reason. This way people are free to discuss and seek answers to their questions of both a spiritual  nature and that is relevant to their life situations.
